to help after two cars crashed in oakland and one tumbled down an embankment this morning on westbound 580. initial chp reports are that people were trapped in the white car you see here. crews did manage to free the victims, and we're told no one was seriously hurt. no word on what caused the crash. >>> developing news out of oakland. police are questioning several people after a double shooting killed one person and left another injured. shots broke out at a home around 1:30 this morning. two victims showed up at the hospital, one of the men died, the other is in serious condition tonight. oakland's s.w.a.t. surrounded the crime scene, a standoff ensued for nearly ten hours, and then police handcuffed and removed several people from the house. >> trying to figure out what really took place here. this is an active investigation. we're not sure what happened earlier today but we're looking to see whether or not the people that were detained were involved in the incident. >> it's not clear if the suspected shooter was among those detained. this killing is oakland's 18th 18th homicide of the

is the latest victim of violence in oakland. police say he was shot to death around 3:00 this morning near ninth and clay street, just blocks away from police headquarters. the unidentified 37-year-old man was in his car when he apparently got into a dispute with people inside another vehicle. they began shooting at the man, who was hit, and then crashed his car. this mark's oak leappedz's 17th homicide of the year. last year at this time oakland had 4 homicides. >> a man hired to help the oakland police department imphlegm court ordered reforms will report for duty tomorrow. the man this department's new compliance director. he'll take on the task of reforming how police investigate themselves and document their work. the 68-year-old is a former baltimore police commissioner who served on the san jose police force. he can spend city funds, oversee top commanders and the chief and his deputies. >> in less than 48 hours the cardinals of the roman catholic church will cast their first ballot in the conclave to elect a new pope. reporter: from the pews, to the pulpit. >> , on this the second consec

the city. oakland police with 14 other agencies, made their move before dawn targeting those think sea were planning violent acts within the community. officers served 20 in oakland there are key people we targ yitd for this operation. those people we went after, today. >> 12 suspects were arrested and multiple firearms recovered. police say they're searching for a half dozen more suspects believed to have committed or participated in numerous crimes. conspiracy to commit murder attempted murder. >> the deputy chief gave no details on that attack. the list of alleged crimes continues and names of the police say are responsible are family. this video provided by the police department. police say the two gangs are responsible foremost of the violent crime. police say one of three people arrested in the murder of ravi kumra is a member of money team. in all, more than 100 officers and agents were involved in the warrant sweep. he promises more arrest to follow. >> it's based on identifying a small number of individuals in this community involved in violent crime. >> there are other components.
